ABOUT ME

Max Mayr

Hello, I'm Max.

I’m an AI solution architect based in Innsbruck, 🇦🇹. I help companies solve the technical problems they cannot solve on the side — from the architecture right through to the implementation.

My work sits where three things meet: enterprise backends in C# / .NET, fast web frontends built with Astro and Angular, and the practical use of AI and automation — LLM integration, RAG, and IoT. As a fractional CTO I also advise on technology choices, run code audits and clean up development processes.

What I deliver is meant to still make sense in two years. No spaghetti code — sustainable solutions that move the business forward.

Interests

When I’m not playing around with one of my side projects, I enjoy spending my time with the following:

  • I participate in the political process in Europe and Austria @Volt;
  • I’m a futurologist;
  • I love watching series and movies;
  • I practice my archery skills;
  • I travel the world and experience different cultures.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

I discovered my love for programming early on and learned a lot of it by myself, then went to university to dive deeper and shape those skills. I have worked across mobile, desktop, IoT and the web. Today my centre of gravity is C# / .NET on the backend — performance, security and scalable cloud architecture — paired with Astro for web projects that need to be fast and findable, and Angular for complex single-page applications.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Shareholder & Developer

@SweetPopcorn.Studio GmbH
September 2023 - Present
C# / .NET Angular PostgreSQL Cloud Architecture

I co-run SweetPopcorn.Studio, where we build software for companies that need more than a template. Our products are routero, a platform for the Route Compatibility Check that lets operators carry out an RCC quickly, document it properly and sign it off, and kkmOS, a crisis and disaster management platform used by authorities and emergency services. My part spans the whole stack, from the architecture down to the implementation, and from the .NET backend to the frontend.

Fractional CTO & Freelance Developer

@Self-employed
June 2023 - Present
C# / .NET Astro LLM Integration RAG Automation IoT

I help companies solve the technical problems they cannot solve on the side — from architecture through to implementation. As a fractional CTO I advise on technology choices, run code audits and clean up development processes. The hands-on work is mostly AI and automation: integrating LLMs, building RAG pipelines, and connecting devices over IoT. What I deliver is meant to still make sense in two years — not spaghetti code that someone has to unpick later.

Founder

@Malsati
February 2023 - Present
C# / .NET Angular PostgreSQL DDD Domain Events Meilisearch

Malsati is a recipe platform I designed and built from scratch — authentic recipes from around the world, with the regional context that usually gets lost. The backend is C# / .NET modelled with Domain-Driven Design and domain events on top of PostgreSQL, with Meilisearch doing the search. It is the project where I get to take an architecture idea all the way through to production without a committee in the way.

Lead Web Developer / Senior Fullstack Developer

@Tributech Solutions GmbH
February 2021 - December 2022
C# / .NET Microsoft Orleans DTDL IoT Angular Azure, GitHub CI/CD Docker

I worked on the concept and development of an IoT stack built around the Digital Twin Definition Language, written in .NET on top of Microsoft Orleans. Users could define their own vocabulary and build a knowledge graph from it, then query and maintain that graph through a range of APIs and applications. Alongside the backend I led the web side, developed concepts for where the stack should go next, and contributed to working groups such as the Self-Description working group of GAIA-X.

April 2017 - January 2021
Angular Akita RxJS NRWL LESS Gitlab CI/CD Karma Cypress

I was part of the eOCS project at eurofunk, which offers a digital command center solution for emergency services. The frontend is Angular, backed by a Spring backend. I broke features down, worked out the technical and UX concepts behind them, built them, and guarded code quality in merge reviews. One of my favourite tasks was building custom form controls and reusable components in general. I also kept the software architecture sustainable by modularising it and enforcing boundaries between those modules, and spent time mentoring and training colleagues. On-site I analysed bugs and system behaviour — rendering performance and tracking down memory leaks were a particular focus.

EDUCATION

University of Applied Science Upper Austria - Campus Hagenberg

Master of Science in Engineering Interactive Media Year Representative
2017-2019

I picked this master study program due to the possibility to focus on projects. I could pick an area that I found interesting and create a project learning a ton of new stuff in the process. This opportunity allowed me to explore technologies that are brand-new and plan the software architecture around it. The most noteworthy projects that I created during the time was a project to create a microservice architecture, a project that realizes collaborative note-taking and my master thesis that explores personal data stores.

Bachelor of Science in Engineering Software Engineering Year Representative
2014-2017

In this bachelor study program, I learned the theory and practice of software engineering. I started with the basics and moved on to specialize in web engineering. What I liked most about the study program was the broad range of topics covered where one could find out what interests him most. One of my bigger web projects that I did for my studies was a biodiversity project for the national park’s association Austria.

Matura Electrical Engineering and Information Processing
2008-2013

I started my higher education in Saalfelden originally in the area of electrical engineering. User applications only played a side role in my chosen program but through the offered lecture, I quickly discovered my love for programming. As my final project, I choose to do a software project that enables users to create digital notes.
